For over 125 years, Covenant has been a mission-minded church. Here are some examples of what we are doing now or have done in the past:

After school programs for Roosevelt Elementary School children (many of whom are low income)

Hymn sings and other worship activities at senior nearby citizens’ residential facilities

Hands-on support for a crisis pregnancy center in nearby Farmington Hills (www.womanspregnancychoice.com)

Collecting food and other items for Friendship House – a Christian social service agency in low income Hamtramck, MI (www.detroitfriendshiphouse.org)

Collecting Bibles and other Christian literature for Friendship House or for worldwide use through Christian Resources International in Fowlerville, MI (www.mycrimission.com)

Collecting used or new medical supplies for World Medical Relief in Southfield, MI for recycling and distribution to developing countries (www.worldmedicalrelief.org)

A sister church relationship with Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit

Our White Cross ladies sew strips of cloth into roller bandages and make surgical masks, surgical caps, and receiving blankets for hospitals in Africa. They also collect items needed by American Baptist neighborhood ministries in the U.S. for their outreach programs.

We helped establish and continue to support a retirement community in Farmington Hills called The Baptist Manor (www.thebaptistmanor.org)

Helping a nine-member Vietnam War refugee family get established in a local community

Short-term youth mission trips to many U.S. destinations

Domestic and overseas short-term mission trips to Alaska, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Belarus

We are actively affiliated with American Baptist Churches-USA, one of the most ethnically and racially diverse denominations in the country. See www.abc-usa.org

ABC-MI has two camps: Camp Lael (www.camplael.com) near Lapeer and Lake Louise (www.camplakelouise.com) near Boyne City. We help support both.
Several of our members became full-time missionaries. Currently we have three Covenant couples whom we support.

Ken and Luci Davis are with a Christian book publishing firm in Brazil, and Greg and Mary Ellen Schrock are with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Mexico. William Clemmer, M.D. and his wife Ann are in South Sudan. It is the newest country in the world and one of the most dangerous and impoverished. See www.internationalministries.org/teams/57-clemmer

Rev. Dr. Jon Good was our senior pastor from 2005 until early 2017. His wife, Amanda, and their four children are now serving as missionaries in Hungary. They help local pastors, church planting, outreach to minorities, enabling refugees to have better lives, and educational ministries through local schools. Richard Gutierrez, M.D., and his wife Anita Gutierrez, M.D. are both pediatricians who left a successful practice in Michigan and became medical missionaries in South Africa. See www.internationalministries.org/teams/66-gutierrez

Rev. Carmella Jones is a Flint native who holds nursing and divinity degrees. She one of the newest ABC missionaries and is serving in Hungary through a unique arrangement that allows students in their public schools to get Christian education along with health care. Pieter Kalkman serves much of Europe and the Middle East. A major responsibility has been coordinating short-term mission teams to Europe, but that has been recently supplemented by helping churches meet the refugee crisis. See www.www.internationalministries.org/teams/70-kalkman

Ketly and Vital Pierre were both born in Haiti. They serve in the Dominican Republic and help coordinate short-term mission trips there. Earlier they were in Nicaragua. We sent several short-term mission teams to both places. See www.internationalministries.org/teams/89-pierre
We also support several other ABC programs, such as One Great Hour of Sharing when there are major crisis concerns throughout the world.
