On Mission With Christ – Locally, Nationally, and Worldwide

“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only” – James 1:22

For over 125 years, Covenant has been a mission-minded church.  Here are some examples of what we are doing now or have done in the past:

  • After school programs for Roosevelt Elementary School children (many of whom are low income)

  • Hymn sings and other worship activities at senior nearby citizens’ residential facilities

  • Hands-on support for a crisis pregnancy center in nearby Farmington Hills (www.womanspregnancychoice.com)

  • Collecting food and other items for Friendship House – a Christian social service agency in low income  Hamtramck, MI (www.detroitfriendshiphouse.org)

  • Collecting Bibles and other Christian literature for Friendship House or for worldwide use through Christian Resources International in Fowlerville, MI (www.mycrimission.com)

  • Collecting used or new medical supplies for World Medical Relief in Southfield, MI for recycling and distribution to developing countries (www.worldmedicalrelief.org)

  • A sister church relationship with Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit

  • Our White Cross ladies sew strips of cloth into roller bandages and make surgical masks, surgical caps, and receiving blankets for hospitals in Africa.  They also collect items needed by American Baptist neighborhood ministries in the U.S. for their outreach programs.

  • We helped establish and continue to support a retirement community in Farmington Hills called The Baptist Manor (www.thebaptistmanor.org)

  • Helping a nine-member Vietnam War refugee family get established in a local community

  •  Short-term youth mission trips to many U.S. destinations

  • Domestic and overseas short-term mission trips to Alaska, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Belarus

  • We are actively affiliated with American Baptist Churches-USA, one of the most ethnically and racially diverse denominations in the country.  See www.abc-usa.org

  • On the state level, we are part of American Baptist Churches of Michigan (www.abc-mi.org)

  • ABC-MI has two camps:  Camp Lael (www.camplael.com) near Lapeer and Lake Louise (www.camplakelouise.com) near Boyne City.  We help support both.

Several of our members became full-time missionaries.  Currently we have three Covenant couples whom we support.

  • Ken and Luci Davis are with a Christian book publishing firm in Brazil, and Greg and Mary Ellen Schrock are with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Mexico.   To learn more about the Davis’s, see www.worldventure.com/explore/details-people.php?name=ken-and-luci-davis&id=a5OF00000004J3ZMAU   To do that for the Schrock’s, go to www.wycliffe.org/partner/4ED23C

  • Our recent pastor, Rev. Dr. Jon Good and his family are actively preparing to become missionaries in Hungary in late 2017.  Details about the Goods are below.

  • Of the approximately 5,000 ABC-USA churches, we ranked 119 by giving $13,000 to United Mission Support in 2016.

These are the ABC-USA missionaries we currently support:

We also support several other ABC programs, such as One Great Hour of Sharing when there are major crisis concerns throughout the world.

One of our members has a missions-related website:  www.HelpingWorldwide.org that connects more than 400 organizations.
