Local Outreach

For over 100 years, Covenant has been a mission-minded church.  Here are some examples of what we are doing now or have done in the past:

  • After school programs for Roosevelt Elementary School children

  • Hymn sings and other worship activities at senior nearby citizens’ residential facilities

  • Hands-on support for a crisis pregnancy center in nearby Farmington Hills (www.womanspregnancychoice.com

  • Collecting food and other items for Friendship House – a Christian social service agency in Hamtramck, MI (www.detroitfriendshiphouse.org)

  • Collecting Bibles and other Christian literature for Friendship House or for worldwide use through Christian Resources International in Fowlerville, MI www.mycrimission.com

  • Collecting used or new medical supplies for World Medical Relief in Southfield, MI for recycling and distribution to developing countries www.worldmedicalrelief.org

  • A sister church relationship with Palestine Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit

  • Our White Cross ladies sew strips of cloth into roller bandages and make surgical masks, surgical caps, and receiving blankets for hospitals in Africa.  They also collect items needed by American Baptist neighborhood ministries in the U.S. for their outreach programs.

  • We helped establish and continue to support a retirement community in Farmington Hills called The Baptist Manor www.thebaptistmanor.org

  • Helping a nine-member Vietnam War refugee family get established in a local community

  • Short-term youth mission trips to many U.S. destinations

  • Domestic and overseas short-term mission trips to Alaska, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Belarus

  • We are actively affiliated with American Baptist Churches-USA, one of the most ethnically and racially diverse denominations in the country.  See www.abc-usa.org

  • On the state level, we are part of American Baptist Churches of Michigan www.abc-mi.org

  • ABC-MI has two camps:  Camp Lael www.camplael.com near Lapeer and Lake Louise www.camplakelouise.com near Boyne City.  We help support both.

  • Rev. Dr. Jon Good was our senior pastor from 2005 until early 2017.  He resigned so that he and his wife, Amanda, and their four children can become missionaries in Hungary.  They will emphasize helping local pastors, church planting, outreach to minorities, enabling refugees to have better lives, and educational ministries through local schools.  https://www.internationalministries.org/author/aj-good/

  • Rev. Carmella Jones is a Flint native who holds nursing and divinity degrees.  She one of the newest ABC missionaries and is serving in Hungary through a unique arrangement that allows students in their public schools to get Christian education along with health care. https://www.internationalministries.org/author/c-jones/

  • Pieter Kalkman serves much of Europe and the Middle East. A major responsibility has been coordinating short-term mission teams to Europe, but that has been recently supplemented by helping churches meet the refugee crisis.  See

https://www.internationalministries.org/author/np-kalkman/

  • Ketly and Vital Pierre were both born in Haiti.  They serve in the Dominican Republic and help coordinate short-term mission trips there.  Earlier they were in Nicaragua.   We sent several short-term mission teams to both places.

  • We also support several other ABC programs, such as One Great Hour of Sharing when there are major crisis concerns throughout the world.

  • One of our members has a missions-related website:  www.HelpingWorldwide.org that connects more than 400 organizations.
